“It’s hard to argue with the results of the Trump poll.
But it is a very clear signal that he was wrong.
That the president is so much more comfortable than the polls indicate,” said Robert Rector, a former director of the Pew Research Center.
“I would call that an electoral disaster.”
The Gallup poll, which was conducted Aug. 14-16, had Trump leading Democrat Hillary Clinton 47 percent to 37 percent.
The Washington Post/ABC News poll, conducted Aug 18-19, had Clinton leading Trump 47 percent and Republican nominee Donald Trump 46 percent.
In the new poll, the margin of error was plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
