Tesla’s latest Powerwall supercharger system was recently recognized as the world’s largest selling car in the United States by the United Nations’ Economic Commission for Europe (ECE).
The 1,500-megawatt system is the largest commercial system of its kind in the U.S. by a factor of nearly 20.
The $65,000 Powerwall is the highest-priced Tesla electric car ever sold in the country, according to an industry source, and is the world first car to break the Guinness Book of World Records.
The Powerwall system is being touted by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his company as a breakthrough in battery technology, with an estimated peak capacity of 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) and the largest superchargers in the company’s history.
“The new record for the highest selling electric car in America is one of the greatest achievements in automotive history,” said Tesla CEO and Chairman Elon Musk.
“In just three short years, the company has created a global automotive industry and transformed the way people travel.
We have been recognized as one of Europe’s top innovators, and now the world has recognized us for our success.”
The company said that, with the new record, it will now move ahead with a full-scale Powerwall deployment at its Fremont, California, factory.
Tesla says the $1,700 system is currently capable of delivering 2,400 kilowatts, or roughly 3.5 percent of the U-Bahn’s capacity, and the company says it plans to ramp up the system’s output to 10,000 kwh in the coming months.
“In the coming weeks and months, we plan to ramp production up to 50,000 kWh at the company headquarters in Fremont,” Tesla said.
“We are working with other suppliers to accelerate the rollout of the new capacity as we complete our next phase of expansion and the building of the Gigafactory in Nevada.
The company has a long history of building the world-class electric vehicle technology and infrastructure needed to support the continued growth of our business and to drive new revenue opportunities for our shareholders.”
The record-breaking system, which has an estimated capacity of 5,000kWh, is one in a series of milestones that Tesla has been on the path to achieving in the months since Musk unveiled the Model 3 at the end of March.
Tesla said the first phase of that drive includes the construction of the factory where the Model S is made, the acquisition of Gigafactories in China and Japan, the launch of Model 3 production, and a series-up of Model X and Model 3 variants.
Tesla also unveiled a new Model X SUV at the show and announced the first production of the company-produced Model X crossover in the US.
The record is set because of the unique nature of the system, as it’s a combination of the two main Tesla products: the Powerwall battery pack and the superchargER, a combination system for delivering charging stations and charging stations, respectively.
The system consists of two power banks: a Supercharger battery bank, and an UltraCharger, which Tesla says is “the world’s most powerful supercharging system.”
The SuperchargER is an internal system that uses a high-voltage direct current to connect to a SuperCharger battery.
The Superchargers, which can carry as much as 5 kW, are capable of handling an additional 5,500 kwh.
Tesla’s superchargERS are a key component of Tesla’s “100 percent electric vehicle” strategy.
Tesla currently has a fleet of more than 100,000 vehicles in service and expects to add more than 300,000 by the end or beginning of 2020.
The superchargered system is designed to deliver up to 3 kW of charging capacity for each Superchargered vehicle, which would put it in contention for the record-setting system, according a company spokesperson.
“We are thrilled to be recognized by the world for our record-tying Supercharged vehicle at the 2017 World’s Fair in Dubai, and to be a part of the record breaking 100 percent electric car record, and look forward to continuing to accelerate this transformation in the electric vehicle industry,” Musk said in a statement.
Tesla’s PowerWall system has been praised for its high capacity and power density, and it has attracted attention in the automotive world for its performance in the past.
The new Powerwall has an expected capacity of 9,800 kwh, according an industry insider.
The record-breaker system’s capacity will be further boosted when it’s delivered later this year.
The SuperChargER system, the second of Tesla Model X’s supercharging stations, is the most advanced superchargering system currently on the market.
The system was designed for high-density, high-capacity applications and can reach speeds of up to 5,700 kwh per hour, according the company
